Perfect TimingIt's funny how sometimes a person can show up at exactly the right moment and turn your day completely around. This morning, I received some news that left me feeling quite unhappy. (The subject of that news is not really important...it was just the worst possible way to start out the day. It's nothing tragic or anything, though.)
At any rate, I went in to work in a rather despondent mood as a result of this news. As I was going upstairs to my classroom, however, I was met by a former student of mine, who just finished 8th grade last year. This was no ordinary student, though. This was Marieke's best friend, Kate. Over the past couple years, I have developed a close friendship with Kate and her family and the events from May have strengthened that. Students like her are the reason I am in this job.
I am sure that the students in my first period class were happy to have her stop by, as I basically gave them free time for about 20 minutes while I caught up with her. (What? There's only 3 more days left!)
As a final note...I have been reading and planning much of my trip the past couple days. I have to say, I am getting excited about the whole affair. If there's anybody who deserves a vacation, it's me. There have been enough disappointments in my life as of late. I am determined that this trip will not be one.
If you're lucky, maybe I'll send you a postcard.
